NY 55-B Program
Section 55-b of the New York State Civil Service Law authorizes the New York State Civil Service Commission to designate up to 1,700 positions normally filled through competitive examination to be filled through the appointment of qualified persons with disabilities.

NY HELPS
Certain job titles currently do not require the civil service exam as part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) program. Test guides published by the Department of Civil Service are typically targeted to specific entry-level titles and are not provided for every civil service examination. If a test guide is available, it will be indicated on the examination announcement. Test guides for local government examinations are made available 60 days prior to the date of the written test.
