Construction Trades

Program Highlights:
In this two-year NYSED-Approved CTE Program, students learn the fundamentals of residential construction from footings to roof installation. First year students will focus on the principles and concepts of wall, floor, and roof framing along with windows, doors, siding, and roofing. Second year students will learn masonry including brick, block and foundation building. After a small foundation is constructed, students will frame a floor and complete the rough plumbing for a residential bathroom. Second year students will have the opportunity to participate in a paid co-op for up to eight weeks, with a reputable construction company.

Successful students:

- Follow safety procedures and practice safe work habits at all times.
- Work inside, outside, and at various heights.
- Work with hand and power tools.
- Utilize resource and reference materials for effective communication.
- Compute and utilize basic mathematical operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages; perform linear measurements.
- Use equipment safely as they participate in class.
- Bring work clothing, as clothing may become soiled during construction projects.
- Purchase and wear a Construction Trades work shirt ($13) and sturdy work boots ($20 or more).
